Instructions: 1. Sand any rough edges from pine covers.covers. Apply several colors of dye base ink directly to the wood covers. (We used Adirondack Denim, Rust, Lettuce and Meadow.)
2. Stamp the Wood Mounted Chapter One Collage image onto the pine covers with pigment ink. (We used Colorbox Chestnut). Rub additional ink along the edges of the covers to add an aged, finished look.
3. Round the corners of the 4x5 Blue panel and glue onto the center of the front pine cover.
4. Fold the 6x10 papers and transparencies in half to make 5x6 pages. Flatten all folds with a bone folder. Round corners with a corner rounder punch. Pierce the fold of inside pages at .75, 1.25, 2.25, 3.75, 4.75, and 5.25”. Arrange the folded inside pages and transparencies into a random pattern. Each signature of the book will be a single page.
5. Thread the needle with waxed linen. Stitch pages together using the kettle stitching technique. Stitch the 7/8”x5” Brick strips of paper beneath the long stitches on the spine. You may find it helpful to temporarily tape the paper strips into place during the stitching process.
6. Attach a pine cover to the front and back of the stitched signatures. Tuck waxed linen thread tails beneath the covers. Keep the Brick binding strips on the outside of the covers.
7. Glue the narrow Brick strips to the covers with bookbinding glue.
8. Round the corners of the 3.75x4.75 Green panel and attach to the center of the Blue panel. Add a photo or stamped panel to the Green panel to finish the book.
9. Punch a hole into the right edged of the front cover with a screw punch or Cropodile. Insert a large brad to attach the D-ring.
10. Thread Waxed Linen scrap through stitching at the top of the book spine. Tie a knot and add charms or beads to the thread tails.
