Y'know, sometimes I can't wait to get at the computer and start blogging, and sometimes it's a terrible chore to decide what to write about. Themes stink. I should make a big list of possible themes, throw 'em in a jar, and pull 'em out when it's time to blog. That might get me to stick to one topic at a time. Because if I think about it too much and come up with all the things I could rant about, then I am totally overwhelmed. All my blog posts could be the length of War and Peace. And hey, man, I never even made it through that behemoth, myself. Can't go 'round 'spectin' my own readers to slog through such a mess, can I?
And .... that's how I end up with days and days in between blog posts.
So today's post is simple: I finally posted a picture of Woodrow's Christmas cakes. Well, I posted a picture of one of his cakes. Woodrow is marvelous help in the kitchen when it comes time to bake. He's so good at it that I think I'm going to see if he can make pie crust. (I can't. Well, actually, I've never tried. My mother couldn't make pie crust, and she passed her fear of pastry failure to me.)
Anyway, Woodrow made marvelous Chocolate Bourbon cakes over the holidays, and after a few plain, brown cakes (scrumptious but not exactly appetizing to gaze upon), he asked me if there were some way to spiff them up. Of course powdered sugar came to mind, and then paper doilies followed quick, and shortly after that, my Club Scrap stencils leapt into action. Because I don't have any paper doilies. And hey, stencils are way more interesting, anyway.
I grabbed my handy-dandy notebooks of stencils and promptly pulled out several that I thought would make pretty cakes -- Generations was a favorite of mine, as were All That Glitters, Evergreen, Chocolate Shoppe, and Sparkle. I also got the Alpha stencils that came with glorious Ivory Elegance. Remember that one? Mmmmm. I thought maybe Woodrow would want to stencil "Merry Christmas" or something on the cakes, but that was too complex.
So as it turned out, he used just the Evergreen holly and the Sparkle stars, and dang it if he wasn't right. It was just the right amount of spiffiness for those delectable dark brown cakes.
I swear, I don't know what I did to get through the holidays before Club Scrap.
And Woodrow is now wondering if he can steal my stencils when he goes off to college... OK, that could be a problem.
(And finally, I still can't get my buggy old computer to play nicely with images on the blog, so here's the URL for a picture of one of Woodrow's stenciled cakes --

What weird thing have you done with your CS supplies lately?
