What's in a name?

Bay in TN

Here's a quickie --

Still doing research on puppy names. I have oodles of ideas. Then Saturday Night Live had a short, brilliant bit during Weekend Update about Zell Miller's endorsement of a Senatorial candidate named Saxby. The premise was that Zell, like most Southerners, has an affinity for unusual names.

That's when the writers pulled out all the stops and came up with a list of names so preposterously perfect, I wrote 'em all down.

Here -- you'll see what I mean.

Zackamore Hooberry
Goolsby Scroggins
Mortimer Fatt
Derbil Mackinaw
Ebenezer Yackbain
Jasper Quazzlepoot
Peabody Tiddlecutt
Bernhard Barnthistle
Templeton Thackletrack
Fishner Blout
Beezleton Kernwinkle
Tep Joggletop
Clementine Dimplethimpy
Foster MacAdoodledoodiedoo

I almost wish somebody had named me Peabody Tiddlecutt. My sister Amy says that they had her at Jasper Quazzlepoot. Any way you look at it, this is one brilliant list of names.

Can you see me calling, "Beezleton, fetch"? Would that work for a dog's name? Nah, too long... but still. Brilliant!

When I started reading I thought you were going to say you settled on Saxby! I think that would be a great name for a dog :0)

Great names, but a little lengthy to get a puppy's attention in an emergency! How about Tucker?

The first time I was pregnant I bought a baby naming book...probably about 10 minutes after getting the "+" on the stick, smilies/grin.gif. I couldn't believe all the hilarious names in there. I mentioned one name, Ib, to my coworkers. They all thought that was cute, so my first baby was called Ib. Unfortunately, I had a miscarriage in my 12th week. I still remember that baby fondly as Ib.

In the same book, was Patasuko (sp?, it was how it sounded anyways), which was a Native American word for ant-biting-person. One of the young guys in my dept over indulged one weekend night and ended up passing out in parking lot on a red ant pile. The co-workers remembered that name and he was known as Patasuko for a long time afterwards.
