Anyone use Google Alerts? I started using it when my youngest son started spending more time online chatting with his friends and cousins so that I would get a notice if his name or online name shows up online somewhere. It isn't the best or most timely alert but it's another tool to use to keep an eye on him a bit. As a curiosity I've also got it set up to alert me about myself.
Well, I got an alert today that caught me way off guard.
You see, a few weeks back I had an episode as I was trying to get my unemployment disaster straightened out that resulted on my being on the local evening news for about 3 consecutive nights. My family was still teasing me about it and the reporter called so many times checking facts bless his heart, that Ed was teasing me about having a new boyfriend.
Well, David called yesterday morning too. David Bailey is the reporter. He was calling to check to see if I had heard something he got wind of about our plant closing and to see how my family and I are holding up which I thought was kind of nice of him even if I'm guessing he had ulterior motives lol. Anyway he asked if we could meet and talk a bit about what has been going in since that first day at the unemployment office and I agreed to meet him. Well, last night I had a very short blurb on the station he works for and then just a few minutes ago I was checking my email and saw a google alert for my name connected to CBS News. WHAT? Checked it out and it was no longer the local version. There was Katie Couric talking about GM and Chrysler and the auto biz mess and next thing you know there's my goofy mug on NATIONAL NEWS!!!! WHOA!!!!!
Then I get another alert and it's from Mankato, MN local news and there's me again. Cripes!!!
It was strange enough being local, but this one was unexpected and freaky and I generally watch a different network (oops) so I would never have known about it if I hadn't gotten that Google Alert!
I loves me my Google!
Here's the URL if you'd like to see my goofy self! Hopefully it will work.
