Wedding Planning Part IV - The Dress.

Now, I wasn't aware of this . . . but the moment you get engaged there are a few things that happen that you don't really see coming. Well, I certainly didn't.

#1: You are suddenly very aware of how terribly, horribly gross your nails are because everyone is grabbing at your hands all the time. You want to run and get a manicure every day even though you've never had more than 3 manicures in your entire life. #2: It's hard to stop smiling because everyone is so nice and saying 'congratulations' all of the time. It's really a very special feeling. #3: Everyone. And I mean everyone you talk to says this, "Congratulations! I'm so happy for you! Do you have a date?". #4: I did not have a date for quite some time - but now that I do, and have a quick response - the inevitable next question has been, "What about the dress? Do you have a dress?". I'm so excited about this new development! I'd much rather talk about dresses than dates!

So here's the thing . . . I'll be honest with you . . . I have pretty much decided on a dress, but, I don't want to share that with the whole world quite yet - so I'm going to share a few dresses (including the one I've decided on), and you tell me what you think! Oh, you may want to know that I'm 90% sure that my ceremony is going to be outdoors in a gardenish-type setting.

I can't wait to hear what you have to say . . . this is the fun part!

Have a great weekend everyone, stay cool!

Four:

First comment? Because it's a garden wedding, number three. But, can I honestly state that you'll look ravishing no matter which dress you select.

Definitely #1 or #4. Not a fan of #2, too mermaidy. Not great for dancing either. Formal dancing, yes, get down and shake it dancing, not so much. #3 looks like a nightgown. A mom nightgown. You asked...

Love ya! Catherine D and KnitterPam

4-3-2 in order of favorites. I don't care for #1 - just a bit too fussy for you and for a garden wedding, IMHO. I was going to put #3 first, but maybe it is a bit too casual.

Um, I don't actually know the date either!

Since it is a garden wedding: I like #4 best then #1. I must be the only one who likes #2 but not for a garden wedding.

#4 has got to be the dress! I agree with others who have stated that #1 is TOO FUSSY! #2 is a beautiful dress, but not for an outdoors wedding. That leaves #3 as a long shot. It just doesn't look weddingish enough.

I think 3 or 4. Probably 4. 3 is beautiful, but it doesn't look like a wedding dress. 1 is nice too. 2 is too fishy (mermaid) looking.

4, hands down. 2 is out, 1 will draw too much attention to the bottom, people looking and trying to figure out what it is. 3 is pretty, I might do some tweaking to the shoulder thing, but the flow of the skirt would look nice in a garden, but not as good as 4. How's that for an honest opinion? LOL! Have fun and thanks for sharing the fun with us.

#4 for a garden wedding, but if it were indoors, I
do like #2
#1 is a bit strange looking, with all the bunching
up; not crazy about the color of #3

Strapless dresses have been done to death.

Dare to be different. Think outside the box.

I choose # 3...it is graceful, flowing and looks lovely.

#1 I can totally see for an afternoon into evening venue in a garden setting. Gorgeous.
#2 Is very tightly fitted and a sweetheart neckline is very hard to pull off. Also that is a bit dressier and clingy for out of door use, but beautiful.
#3. I love this one, because it draws the eye in a vertical line, and the drape is beautiful and flowy-perfect for a garden venue.
4. this is a favorite for all, but I was thinking the lace would be stiffer and not as flowy as #3. THis looks fine, but overall #3 would be better.

My choices in order would be #1, #3, #2, and #4.

this is fun! I love #4 and #2! Although walking around in the grass in #4 may be a bit tough because the skirt is so big. I love #2 because it is different and probably easy to dance and walk in, and I love the lace on the bottom! You will look great in any of them Nikki!

It's been fun reading everyone's comments! Here are my thoughts--from a former dressmaker. #1 is just not pretty. Not sure what the skirt fabric is, but it's not elegant. As others have mentioned, #2 would be hard to dance in. And if you gain a pound between the final fitting and the wedding, it will be uncomfortable--and if you lose a few pounds, it won't fit right. #3 is too simple. A wedding dress should be striking. This one is pretty, but just too simple. #4 is elegant and would look beautiful on you. You could have straps added if you like--they could have the same trim work as the waist. Or you could have a lace wrap made if the wedding or reception will be in the evening. We'd all LOVE to know which is YOUR favorite, Nikki!

I'm not going to tell you yet which one I chose yet . . . you'll have to wait and see the pictures. We do have a date. July 21, 2012. Less than a year left!

#4, because it's a garden wedding....and has that casual, but elegant look
I like #3 for the same reason, but it looks a little TOO casual, more for a beach setting...reminds me of an elegant nightgown smilies/smiley.gif
#2 just looks too formal and reminds me of the 20's/30's--it's less contemporary
#1 would wear you, not the other way around

Good luck with your choice!

3 then 4, I really like. 1 and 2 are almost equally unacceptable to me, but if a choice was forced I'd take 2 then 1.

Isn't it interesting how so many opinions varied.

At first glance I thought #1 to be my first choice, but thinking about it , I think there is too much going on in the skirt which would take away from you. I love #2 but not so much for a garden wedding. #3, well Pam said it all, it looks like a night gown, but not even a great one at that. So #4 is my first choice. It will show off your figure and has just enough of the princess about it. Yep, #4 is my choice then #2.

#4 is Gorgeous! I like #1 as well but, like I saw in a recent episode of My Fair Wedding, make sure you can sit comfortably in a dress with a lot of skirt.
As everyone has said, you will look fab in ANYTHING you choose; it is all about you here afterall. Enjoy the process.
