Book of Odds and Ends...

These cute, little, Pine Wood Compartment boxes from GHM rock my crafting world!

Of course any kind of pages will work on the inside - accordi0n folded, stitched, glued back to back, anything that can be glued onto the wood covers. In this case, with both covers decorated, front and back, I wanted the book to open from the right on both sides - that's why I created a "Z" shaped signature in the middle of the stitched block of pages, so there is really no clear begining and end to this book.
Hey, you know why handmade books are such great gifts don't you? ....because the recipient gets to open them over and over and over again! heheeee...back to my passion over these wooden box books... I liked the Manilla Shipping tags from GHM to stitch in, along with some CS printed paper and an old post card.

A little distressing and stamping beforehand on the stitched in tags worked well.

I was pleased how well the stamp images came off on the stained wood, and when they didn't it just looked more distressed, no problem.

They can be wood stained, acrylic painted, sprayed on, stamped on, inked on - the list just keeps going on, and that's probably why I like these Wooden Collage Boxes so much. Now, in the GHM dept, there's screamin' deal on a 6-Pk of these unfinished keepsakes.
Now, for a completely different look, with the Castaway papers stitched inside... Castaway Compartments...

I just love using this wooden box full of compartments as mini album covers. Just stitch some pages together and glue onto the smooth side of the wooden boxes. If you are interested, check out the Castaway (Feb 2010) Scrap Rap instructions for more details on the process of this project, but for now, I think a couple of these stepout shots tell part of the story at least. After painting the wooden box covers, the fun decorating part:

This soooo gives me a chance to use all those fun embellishments I continually collect. Below I have a shot of gluing a block of pages onto the smooth side of the wooden covers, pretty easy peasy:

The stamped images came off rather nicely also on the acrylic painted wooden surface - cool I thought. How fun it is to create mini collages in each little compartment. Can't wait to get my pictures from the CS Cruise put inside this little keepsake gem.
Remember back in '05 when we had a Chocolate Shoppe Kit? Well that's when we first brought these little wooden collages boxes into the GHM dept, and have enjoyed them ever since. Remember the coolest pen cup ever? made by Tricia at that time? using 4 of these wooden boxes....

After decorating, glue 4 wooden boxes together, attach a matte board bottom also with glue, and what a cool thing to have on your desk. This one stays on Tricia's desk and she uses it daily. Thank you Tricia for letting me borrow your totally cool project for my blog....but I couldn't resist when talking about these wooden boxes.
If you saw the Castaway Feb 2010 Scrap Rap, you saw my Circle Journal too. I thought using these wooden boxes as covers would give my Circle Journal a different twist. Here is the front cover:

I saturated the wood with Glimmer Mist sprays to color this one before stamping on it and assembling. The theme of the journal was "Favorite Little Things", each participant decorated one or two of the compartments on the cover and filled a page or two on the inside with something that represented one of their favorite little things. Here is the opening page:

and an inside page:

I would love to show everyone's entry, but I know I'm long winded enough.....and the back over of the CJ:

So, is there a limit of how many pictures one can post in their blog entry? I think I'm pushin' it...I have just a couple more.
Now, pictured below this not the wooden box that we have in our GHM dept, but it still might give some wooden box & page decorating ideas, so that's why I thought I'd add it lastly. I made this one five years ago, the box has a couple more compartments and is taller, it was packaging when I purchased some mosiac tiles, and I haven't seen this size around since, however I like the size we now have in GHM better, as you can probably tell, it's easier to decorate and such.
Album of Little Treasures.......

Just simply stitching in black pages and using white opague ink for stamping (before stitching in) is a nice clean look I thought.

Well, thinking this is the perfect little project for anyone that likes the little things in life .
Hope you like! Thanks for taking the time to look!
Kay
