I Know He Didn't Realize, But....

Okay, he's a great friend and has been a wonderful partner on several projects over the past several years.  We have a lot in common, our trade, many of our abilities, though he has more experience than I do in several areas.  He is much more analytical and black and white where I tend to be much more 'grey'  He does truly appreciate creativity and has some himself, but more from the engineer perspective than that of a fine artist.  You know, the clean everything has to be perfectly straight and lined up vs. all curvy, smudgy, blended and 'relaxed'

But as much time as we spent working together I would have thought more would have rubbed off or been absorbed somehow.

I spent today helping my friend, Yoda, well, his real name is Dave, but that's another story, set up and set prices on his mother's belongings for an estate sale he's having this coming weekend.  The poor guy has been trying to do this monstrous task by himself and I just found that out the other day.  Well, I came across a box of picure frames that still had all his family photos in them.  I asked where he wanted me to put the photos and he said to just leave them in and if anyone bought the frame they could just yank the picture out and pitch it.  Hmm well, err, 'You sure?'  'Yep'

Well, being me, I had to snoop a bit, hoping for a good blackmail shot to use someday and found a frame that had a cabinet card in it.  Whoa, back up the bus.....

I told him I was pulling that picture out and we'd price that seperately.  He asked why, it's just an old picture. They (he and his brother) must have missed those when they tossed a big pile of them into a bonfire the other night. WHAAAAAATT!!!!

I told him that I've seen those old pictures in antique shops for 10.00 a piece! Um, are there more hidden somewhere that you're intending to burn?  Well, there's an old photo album over there that might have some old pictures in it.  If you want it you can have it.  Holy Moley!  He was at least feeling bad when I told him that if they really were cabinet cards and tintype photos, he really blew it big time, but still would have tossed out the old photo album.  There weren't many more of the cabinet card pics, but some of the old photos are so fun.  It's entirely possible you'll see some of them sometime down the road.

Can you believe it?  Burned them! I can't help but feel sick to my stomach at the loss of that history, or if that history didn't matter to him or his family, then the loss of that potential crafting fun.   Aaaarrrrggghhh!

OMG!! Lori that is so heartbreaking. I would have love to have seen some of those things. I don't care who's family it was. The point is that it is someone and their families and all that history. Guys can be so dense sometimes. I wonder why he could have cared less. At least you were there to salvage some. Maybe someday he will understand.

I love looking at historical photos as well. I don't care who they are or where they're from. It is, indeed, too bad some was lost here.

This is heart breaking! What a total shame, it gives me that bad feeling in my stomach just hearing about it. I guess some people just live in the "now" and don't value that stuff from the past, so unlike most of us that cherish any little thing we can scrounge up from our late relatives lives. It was lucky you were there to save at least some.
