Today was a hard day for me.
I dropped my daughter off for her first day of high school. I just sat in the car and watched her walk to the door, and I sorta felt like I could cry. She graduated from a class of 18 students in 8th grade, and now she has over 2,000 kids at her high school. She'll put in a 12-hour day today between school, swim practice, and show choir rehearsal, so I'll have to wait until tonight to see how things went. Dinah says the next four years will fly by in a flash. I think she's right.
So, I finished up the ALSB for the new "Homeroom" collection today, and thought a lot about Emily's "first days" of school from past years. I rode a li'l inspiration wave and combined three things to make a few "first day of school" cards: Papers from Dream in Color and Matrix; Stamps from Scholarship; and the 4 of Hearts and 9 of Clubs (ALCM, Deck II).
These were the results!
Assembly Line Card Making Formula: 4 of Hearts
(2) 8.5x11 Paper A = Dream in Color Red
8.5x11 Paper B: Matrix Blue
8.5x11 Paper C: Dream in Color Green
8.5x11 Dream in Color White
Dream in Color JR Embellies (Ribbon)
Scholarship UM and CSJR Wood Mounted Stamp

Assembly Line Card Making Formula: 9 of Clubs
(I adapted the formula from 2 colors to 3 colors, and interchanged all three.)
12x12 Paper A: Matrix Blue
12x12 Paper B: Matrix Yellow
12x12 Paper C: Dream in Color Red
Dream in Color White Plain (From first set of cards.)
Scholarship UM Stamps and CS Wood Mounted Stamp

I hope you'll give these formulas, images and papers a go!

... Oh Tricia - I feel your pain. I went through the same thing 2 years ago when Hollis started high school. Her 8th grade class had 16 students. Now she attends a very intense boarding prep school in NJ. When we moved her into the dorm freshman year I wouldn't leave until her curtains were hung, dresser drawers were lined, her clothes neatly hung and her school supplies organized. When I finally had to leave I tried with all of my might to keep the tears from falling in front of her, but my lip quivered and a few of those tears were determined to roll down my cheeks. Hollis took my arm and said, "Don't worry Mom, you'll be OK." You will be OK, too, Tricia, and it sounds like Emily is already fully engaged in the high school experience. It's gonna be great. Great cards, btw. |

... Tricia welcome to the Tears Club, LOL. My 6'3"+ baby started back to school on Tuesday as a senior. Charley loves high school and all his activities. First day of school it was 7am to 9pm - school plus marching band practice. Tomorrow it's 6am to about 10pm - Senior Sunrise, classes and then pep band at their first football home game. Then back Saturday at 8am to be one of the teachers for Marching Band Camp. Get ready for a fun, wild and fast ride for the next 4 years. It's a wonderful time for Emily and all our children. Fabulous cards and I love how these moments in your life inspire you to be so creative. Sniff, sniff with hugs, Farley |
