There are two very important things that you need to know about me. In this order:
1. I was born on the 4th of July and I am proud to be an American.
2. I love my Green Bay Packers.
Now, I know not everyone is a football fan - but bear with me here.
Attending the opening game of the NFL season at Lambeau Field last night was one of the most wonderfully American experiences of my life. There was just something in the air. The weather was perfect - 72 degrees and lovely (not something that happens often round these parts). I cry almost every time I walk into the stadium . . . but last night was really something special.
There are just over 73,000 seats at Lambeau, and they had taped red, white, and blue cards to each of our places. During the National Anthem we held up our cards, which created a beautiful flag waving across the entire crowd. There was a palpable feeling of togetherness and patriotism. It was postiviely breathtaking. The flyover by four F16's was the perfect icing on the cake. A-mazing.
What I really wanted to share with you is that each and every time I attend a game at Lambeau Field I am reminded of what makes this country so resilient and strong. As Americans, we instinctively come together in good times and bad because we know in our hearts that we are always stronger united than divided. It's a comforting, hopeful feeling - and one that I count myself lucky to be able to carry into this weekend as we remember and pay tribute to the tragic losses suffered ten years ago on September 11.
Have a safe weekend - and may God Bless America and YOUR 13 time world champion Green Bay Packers :)

... Nikki, I watched the game last night and wondered if anyone from CS was at the game. The fan flag was so impressive! How fun that you could participate. When I see you in October, we can discuss football - I am a crazed JET fan. Thanks you for your patriotic message. Living in NY through that horrible time taught us so much. We should all be thanksful for our freedom and the country we have. Please remember our troops this weekend. They continue to fight for our freedom every day, especially in Afghanistan and Iraq. God Bless America! |
