As they say in "Showboat," ...
HAP-py New Year!!!!
I love New Year's Eve. I was one of those people who dressed up and went out every year in my youth. I would spend two or three months making the perfect plans, putting together the perfect outfit, finding the most sublime shoes... Only to kick those shoes off at 12:30 a.m. and walk around barefoot in the middle of the street.... but that's another story....
Anyway, I always loved New Year's Eve. I haven't gone out to celebrate it since my mother passed away 15 years ago, though. Now that my children are old enough to be left home alone, my darlin' husband's work schedule precludes partying.
I made my own little party, though, complete with hors d'oevres and sparkling cider that I shared with my children. And we shot off two fireworks thingies at midnight. That was nice.
Anyhoo, I wanted to say HAP-py New Year to all my friends here at the new-an'-improved CS chattin' website. (HAP-py New Year!!!!)I know 2008 was a tough year for a lot of people, but I hope that 2009 proves to be better. (Hey, man, it can't get any worse, can it?)
Actually -- this is kinda stinky of me, but I have to say that 2008 sorta rocked for me. No, I didn't get a job, and the economy stinks. But ... nothing bad happened to me in 2008.
And here's a list of blessings I really enjoyed about the last year...
- I have my health. In fact, I improved my health! I started walking around the park, and it actually made me feel better in a lot of ways!
- Gas prices came down in 2008! Sure, I drive a hybrid, but c'mon, gas prices were ridiculous. Thank heaven for lower fuel prices!
- I got to see my sister Amy four times this year! We do podcast all the time, and email and cell phones are wonderful inventions. But there's nothing like the joy of actually being able to reach over and pinch her -- or to pat her arm and squeal, "We got to see Bette Midler!"
- I saw Bette Midler!!
- My daughter Emily saw a cardiologist. (Em was born with a big, honkin', scary heart defect and she actually had heart surgery when she was two days old, so whenever I say "Emily had to see a cardiologist," there's always the possibility they're gonna require something scary like more surgery.) Anyway, Em's heart got a pretty clean bill of health, and the cardiologist told her to exercise more. If there were a problem, he wouldn't want her to tax her heart, now, would he?! Yeah, Emily and her heart!!!
- And the big news, which I should have posted sooner, but I can't figure out how to post pictures easily here -- although I swear, that's near the top of my 2009 to-do list --
I have a puppy! Doris Daylily is the light of my life and the sunshine of my existence! I've taken so many pictures and so much video. I just need to find time to share it all instead of gazing adoringly at the dog! I've put a few pictures on my account at MyCorgi.com. (Like the new CS website, MyCorgi.com is a "social networking" site, but it's even more like MySpace. Cool, huh?!)
I hope this URL will link you to some pictures of darlin' Doris. She's a little love!

Now, as soon as I get Doris crate-trained, I can't wait to start working on her scrapbook. She's so fabulously photogenic! In fact, on New Year's Eve when I was taking pictures of my buffet spread for our private party, I made my son hold up Doris as an attendee of the party. ROFL! Welcome, 2009!
It really will be a year of blessings, I just know it!
